The sculpture by ‘Duván’:

The conceptual origin of the Cadira per la Pau  sculpture can be found in the peace talks in Colombia that date back to 1999. These peace talks were held between the Colombian National Government, at that time under the presidency of Andrés Pastrana, and a representative of the armed groups belonging to the guerrilla organizations.  At that meeting where the two parties in conflict were to appear, the representative of the armed groups did not attend, so a chair was left empty, this chair of the guerrilla leader who did not attend the meeting.  The episode was known as, “The Empty Chair”.  The impossibility of reaching an agreement and peace once again led Duván López to take these events as triggers for the creation of the sculpture.  “Today peace has no chair although it may seem so from afar… and so we continue with an empty chair of will to speak about Peace.” (Duván)
